Our Mission – New Rooms for Child Abuse Victims

Welcome to Room Redux, where healing and transformation go hand in hand. We are compassionately dedicated to encouraging healing and improving the lives of children who have faced abuse, through Room Transformation. Often, abuse occurs in a child’s own room. This can link the room to feelings of fear and aversion, causing the child to avoid it entirely. We provide new rooms for child abuse victims where they can feel comfortable and safe!

Since the beginning, one main goal of Room Redux has been to have the ability to transform the rooms and lives of children everywhere who have been victimized. With Chapters opening up across America, we get closer to reaching the goal of new rooms for child abuse victims everywhere.

  • “A will be in a school play this Thursday, something I never imagined they would be able to do. With the confidence of a strong teenager, they told me recently that they’ve hit their “glow up.” I know that the sanctuary y’all built for A played a big role in healing them this far.”
  • Thank you and your team for the hard work and dedication you put forth to help children heal. “There is no darkness so dense, so menacing, or so difficult that it cannot be over come by light.” Room Redux is the light!

  • “Room Redux gave my daughter the safe space she needed in our home. Her new room has improved her sleep and renewed her creativity. She is making more art now! We are grateful for all the work that Room Redux put in for making such a magical place for my daughter to live.”
  • [She] still wakes up feeling so lucky this is her room and it’s not a dream. It has been a perfect space for telehealth sessions and its everyone’s favorite room in the house. Thank you again for all your giving and beautiful hearts!

  • In April of 2020, I found out something no mother ever wants to go through. My daughter cried out to me about something horrible. I reached out in our local moms group and several people came together and even referred me to different things. And one being Room Redux. I got in contact with Susie. She came out anonymously to our house to see my daughter’s sleeping arrangements. (a twin sizes bed and a small shelf) During this time I was also in contact with San Antonio Chapter B.A.C.A. Susie came out to my daughter ceremony, giving my daughter her B.A.C.A. name “PINK ROSE”. It was amazing because B.A.C.A. was able to be apart of her Room Transformation. So in July of 2020, my daughter was gone for a week with her Aunt in New Mexico. Susie and her amazing team of volunteers and helpers were amazing, fast, sweet, bubbly and just did an over all amazing job. Had so many things that were meant for just her. My daughter came back from her aunts to a huge surprise. She “FINALLY” had a room to call hers, a room with walls to divide her area from the rest of the house. It made her feel safe, protected. And that she had all the support she needed right here. It has made her healing process through this hard time in her life a little easier. I am very grateful that she was blessed to be apart of Room Redux, I have told several people about this Non-Profit and will continue to do so.

  • “I just wanted to say how much you changed my son’s life on January 22, 2021. He walked into this brand-new room with nothing but silence (a good silence I must add). He has never been more complete and happier in a very longtime. This crew that came in and totally redone his room was so kind, loving, and gentle his room and my feelings. I will say it was quite overwhelming for me and exciting at the very same time as well. C has kept his room exactly like it was when he got home that very day. The volunteers were so amazing, I kept my eyes closed till the very end and all I could say when I opened the door was “Oh My”. I was blown away with the love I felt in that room at that very moment. My son has been through a lot in the last 8 years and he finally feels “safe” as he put it. Thank you Room Redux for making my son feel safe again….”

  • As a Social Worker in a high school, I witness astonishing aspects of kids’ lives every day. Many teachers referred one young lady to me to help figure out why the student had a severe issue with body odor. I went to visit her mom at her house and when I entered the home, I found the same harsh odor all over the walls, in the carpet, in the HVAC unit, it was overwhelming. The previous owner had over 10 dogs taking over the home and left evidence of their dominance everywhere. The mother was disabled and on a low-income budget and not able to do what she could do to fix the problem. I knew what had to be done but there was no way I could do it myself. I remembered Susie Vybiral presenting Room Redux at my agency’s staff meeting and called her immediately. She went out to the home, assessed the situation, gathered her superhero-volunteers and donated materials, and scheduled the transformation asap. What a transition! It’s like a brand new home. The young lady comes to school with brand new clothes on, has been walking more confidently, and the bullying about her body odor is subsiding. It’s been a week after the transformation and the student is already making new friends. Working with Room Redux has changed not only the family’s home but kept the family from having serious repercussions that they could not have been able to handle.

  • First of all, let me say: Susie, her volunteers, and Room Redux are angels in human form. They breathed life not only into my daughter’s room, but also back into her soul. She has been in a very dark place for so long. She hasn’t slept well in years, until the first night in her new room. It smelled so good, was inspiring, and the blue and ocean theme above her bed was so very calming to her. She slept well and has most nights since then. The moment she walked into her room, her eyes lit up like I haven’t seen in quite a while. She smiled big and was awed for hours while she walked around and took everything in. Room Redux tailored her room to her – I can’t describe all they did, but unique touches designed to minister to my 16-year old was beyond belief. Susie didn’t just listen, she researched and studied what was best and her resources are endless. Thank you to Susie, her very special volunteers, and Room Redux. Every city in the nation should be so lucky to have Room Redux in their neighborhood.

  • I wanted to walk you through my experience with Room Redux. They truly are an amazing organization! At first when I was approached by my daughter’s counselor about the opportunity, I will admit that I had felt a little emotional about it. It made me feel bad because I thought people figured I couldn’t take care of my kid well enough, but if you feel like this just know this is not at all what anyone thinks! I learned this from going through this experience. I agreed to let Room Redux come and take a look at my daughter (and her two siblings) room. When Susie came and I saw her face and all the excitement and planning spinning in her brain you can clearly see that this group truly just wants to help to make your little guy or girl feel special! All of the volunteers that came were super sweet and did an amazing job. Now when she came and looked at the room I had no idea what could be done because it’s three kids in one room – that’s just how it has to be sometimes – but oh my gosh I could not believe the transformation and all of the intricate and thoughtful details. These little thoughtful details are what made all of my kids feel so loved! This to me is what really shows the lasting impression on what this group has done. For days after the room was complete we were still finding and noticing new things that they did. It was like a puzzle of love. My daughter loved everything so much it was nice to see a smile on her face again. She could not be happier with her new comfy space!

Thank you and all of your volunteers for giving your time, hearts, and energy! You made a difference in our lives.

  • The blessing from my daughter’s new room really made an impact in our spirit – we decorated this year! Family has been coming today to see her beautiful room transformation! It has been years since we decorated for Christmas. She would sleep with me. Friday was the first day she slept all night in her room in years. You made a difference in her life! And I am truly grateful that our good Lord blessed us with Room Redux! Thank you so much!

  • I thank God for His angels that walk amongst us! God bless all of you who bless others! You are truly a blessing! When my son saw his room, he asked, “Did the angel people do this?”

mother of a 17-year old boy
  • On December 10, 2018, Room Redux came and did my son’s bedroom. I cried when I saw the room because it made a huge impact on my son’s self esteem and it could not have come at a better time than at Christmas. When he got home from school and saw his room, he was so happy that people who didn’t know him loved and cared for him enough to give him such a wonderful gift. For a few months, he has been kinda down, so for him to have his room redone was a gigantic blessing from God working through organizations like Room Redux. I can’t thank Room Redux enough and all of the people associated with it. Not only did they make my son’s day, they made my day. They went above and beyond what I expected. Thanks for all of what y’all do to bring happiness to every child’s face and life. I can’t thank you enough for what y’all have given my son.

  • One of the horrors of the world that I just cannot wrap my head around is that there are children in this world who are victims of sexual abuse. It makes me physically ill that innocent children are victimized. Every person needs a safe place to heal. For many people, they retreat to their bedrooms to curl up, cry, sleep, relax, and process. Imagine a child whose bedroom was the place of horrific abuse. How can that child begin to heal? Room Redux surprises a child by doing a room makeover so they, as opposed to reliving the horror every time they enter their room, may enter a room that has been redesigned with their tastes and interests. They change the narrative so their bedroom is a place of joy and safety. I know your Facebook feed is full of people asking for donations to many worthy causes. I ask that you consider donating to Room Redux. I have been witness to the hard work and dedication of so many volunteers who not only spend the day doing a remodel – they spend weeks and months planning, building, painting, shopping, and coordinating. And to see the pure joy on a child’s face when they know that this is now their safe space overwhelms me with emotion every. single. time.

  • The importance of room transformation in the therapeutic healing process is a key aspect that I feel has not been utilized as much as it should. As therapists, there is only so much we can do within our office for 50 minutes a week. Yes, a client can process their trauma and develop coping skills, but that same child may be going back home every day and night to their room where the abuse has usually occurred. They possibly may be reliving their abusive experience or continuing to exhibit post traumatic symptoms due to the fact that their bedroom is a constant reminder or trigger of the abuse. Room transformations with Room Redux offer children a fresh start.

    McKenzie W., therapist.
  • Room Redux is right on track in helping children heal from the trauma of abuse. What a practical way to make a difference in a child’s life! A new room, a new view, a new perspective! Brilliant! You are showing that these children are valued and cared for by giving them a beautiful new sanctuary in which to heal. Thank you for your work in promoting the healing process!

  • What a beautiful process. I am privileged to have been able to be a volunteer at several remodeling projects with Room Redux, and it is truly inspiring to see a group of people who truly care about children working together to help someone they’ve never met and, likely, never will meet. One of my favorite parts of the process is Room Redux’s insistence on remaining as anonymous as possible: when the focus is pulled away from the individual, there’s much more room for cooperation and focus on what really matters. I would be honored to take part in more room transformations with Room Redux – and I hope to see you there!

    Gabriel V., volunteer
  • OMG. We love the rooms know we don’t want to get out. When we save money My husband and I want to hire you to decorate our living room. How much would you charge us. Where did you buy the hangers. I love them. So if I buy stuff to decorate you all would help me. I had open house yesterday at night everyone love the way you decorate the rooms. They said thank you for helping us out. C—– now has us as his parents and a new room with even his own bed. His life will be so good now. A—- keeps saying oh my God oh my God. She loves her walls and art and all of it. Thank everyone who did this posable please. Thank you we love it.

  • Our niece has really enjoyed the outstanding work that your team put into transforming her room into a little girl’s paradise. She makes sure that each day when she makes her bed that the stuffed animals are placed back just as she first found them on the day that she first saw them! She enjoys sitting at her “makeup stand” and brushing her hair and playing with her imaginary friends while looking in the mirror. She has adjusted the lights to do different things – but always wants help to get them back to a stationary lighting…LOL! Thank you for all of the hard work and the caring hearts of your team. [She] lived several days in her bean bag – and continues to love the changes that you provided in her room!

  • I cannot begin to thank your team for transforming my daughters room. Our family is both humbled and extremely grateful. She previously would not sleep in her room even with the help of her therapist yet now she loves her room & even goes to bed earlier! She spends the majority of her time in her room whether shes watching tv or drawing at her vanity. It has made such a positive impact on her mood and behavior. Room Redux truly put so much thought and love into each detail of her bedroom which is absolutely fabulous. We did share with our daughter that this transformation was done by Room Redux and what your program does for children. She shared that she felt so special and loved that strangers would do something like this for her. She has also asked to pay this kindness forward by helping with future transformations. Thank you Room Redux for being the difference in my daughters life and giving her back some of the joy this traumatic experience has taken from her. -Mari H.

  • We recorded the entire tour of her bedroom and she was speechless, in happy tears, and pointing out all the little details that were just for her. Her dad’s emotions were exactly the same. But wait! There is more! We have an atrium that connects the two guest rooms and that was transformed as well. It looks like a little Mini Moroccan Market. Now both A and her dad have a beautiful view outside their windows and it’s a great spot for nice Texas days. They were both overwhelmed with all the love that has come from Room Redux and the community along with all the support from such a sincere and selfless place.

  • Working with my child through traumatic experiences of the past has been an incredibly difficult process. In the beginning, every day brought a new challenge and the emotional toll was high for the entire family. A true shift occurred when Susie and her team at Room Redux dedicated their time and energy into transforming my daughter’s room into an oasis for healing. I’ll never forget the look on her face when she first saw her room makeover. She felt special beyond words and it caused for a real change in her behavior. Ever since the transformation, she’s been taking much better care of herself, her space, and the small details of self care. I can’t fully describe the mental and emotional peace I experienced witnessing how loved my daughter felt and continues to feel when she enters her room and finds the a safe space just for her. Thank you for what you do! I’m endlessly grateful for the good hearts at Room Redux. You’ve transformed a little girl’s spirit and uplifted a soul at the time she needed it the most.

  • What you have done is nothing shy of a miracle. You have been such an amazing blessing to my daughter and our family! More than you could EVER imagine. We all have seen such positive changes in her. Your kindness has helped heal wounds you didn’t even cause. You have made everyday so positive and brighter when she walks in that room for her. Your caring demeanor has restored hope in people for her, not everyone’s evil. You have my daughter loving to be in her room, wanting to have friends over again, and regaining strength of her personal space. Thank you for taking the time to truly get to know who my daughter was, her likes and dislikes in redoing her room. You have taken the time to make sure she received this wonderful gift and she did not have to wait long. You actively listen and only want what is best for the kiddos. You are truly inspiring! The world needs more people like you. I can not thank you enough!
